that city was new orleans. this was a few weeks after hurricane katrina, which we all know will be probably the greatest civil engineering set of blunders that our country has made in our country's history. and what we all learn from hurricane katrina is what happens when we don't have a community that is prepared and a set of relationships that is ready to be hit by the big one. which leads me to the third reason why i wake up at night. the neighborhoods that i represent in the northeast not only represent the oldest neighborhoods in our city, but some of the most vulnerable. we have some of the poorest residents. half of my district are recent immigrants who are mono lingual. i have hundreds of constituents who live in buildings that contain them where they live three, four, five people in a room that might be no larger than 10 by 15 feet, in buildings that are absolutely prone to earthquake, fire, and the next major disaster. and, so, i was asked to just mention if i had three things that i want you to tell

one city that didn't see much with the storm system is the city of chicago. we were seeing a lack of snow since earlier in the year. no snow in chicago. we are not seeing any snow already into almost mid december out here. current temperatures behind the storm cold 10 degrees outside of minneapolis 24 in kansas city. the cold air has moved so far south we are lacking at a freezing temperature in san antonio. 29 in dallas. even in new orleans with the current temperature at 46 degrees. as we head into the afternoon hours take minneapolis for instance 19 degrees for a high temperature. in new york city you will see the impact of the cooler air. high temperature 47. we have lirnging showers but across northeast we will continue to see the drying trend and sunshine as we head into the afternoon hours. behind the storm very quiet conditions across the plains. next storm arrives in the pacific northwest as we head into later on today into tonight. >> maria molina thank you very much. we begin with 5@5:00. three people killed a helicopter crash in northern illinois.

we're working with other city departments so they know what to expect from us. it's been an education process. as we started down the road i think there was an expectation all water and sewer was going to be in operation in san francisco after an ert quake. that probably is not going to happen. it's a little bit different having several blocks in your population out of water versus out of electricity or gas or cell phone service. it's a little bit different level of emergency. after an earthquake what we're designing for is to have the high level fire system more or less immediately. there may be homes, individual service connections, which could be out of water for quite some time and that's where my utility has to interface with other departments to make sure we're getting water to people through humanitarian stations, red cross, mutual aid is a huge part of this with our federal and state partners. but those hand off points after a major event and educating ourselves what we're doing and not doing is a big part of the life line process that naomi is running a
